2024 Vera Gross Lecture - Dr. Michael Breakspear

Dr. Michael Breakspear delivered the Vera Gross lecture on The Wave-Particle Theory of Brain Dynamics. This lecture was held in conjuction with the annual assembly of the Global Brain Consortium on September 6, 2024. Dr. Breakspear is a Psychiatrist and Neuroscientist researching the principles of brain function in health and in mental illness. Professor Breakspear leads the Systems Neuroscience Group – a team of psychiatrists, physicists, psychologists and neuroimaging scientists at the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute, Australia. He uses computational modelling to study the generative processes underlying bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dementia and in healthy ageing. Follow the link to YouTube to watch the recording.

2023 Vera Gross Lecture - Dr. Michael Milham

Dr. Michael Milham MD, PhD, delivered the Vera Gross Lecture on the Multimodal Characterization of Brain and Behavior - The Last Missing Ingredient for Precision Neuropsychiatry. This lecture was held in conjunction with the annual assembly of the Global Brain Consortium on March 22, 2023. Dr. Milham is an internationally recognized neuroscience researcher and the Vice-President of the Child Mind Institute in New York City. He is the founding director of its Center for the Developing Brain and a practicing child and adolescent psychiatrist. Dr. Milham’s research interests include investigating how functional and structural connectivity in the brain may underlie differing forms of mental illness, and seeking to chart the course of brain development in healthy and affected children. 2021 Vera Gross Lecture - Dr. Janina Galler

Dr. Janina Galler, MD, PhD, delivered the inaugural Vera Gross Lecture on Life-Span and Intergenerational Legacy of Early Childhoof Malnutrition on Brain and Behavior - the 48+ Year Barbados Nutrition Study. This lecture was held in conjunction with the annual assembly of the Global Brain Consortium on November 23, 2021. Dr. Galler from the Harvard Medical School presented the Barbados Nutrition Study for this public presentation. Since the 1970s this multidisciplinary developmental project has studied the lifelong effects of early malnutrition and associated childhood adversities.
